Ken-Mar Rescue is an organization where “people help animals and animals help people” through an extensive variety of programs that provide for the care and adoption of homeless animals, as well as the beneficial therapeutic and educational interaction that can take place between animals and people.
Founded in 2007 with its primary focus on animal adoptions and education, programs have expanded to include education on the importance of spaying and neutering your pets (in Spanish and English), pet wellness and good pet guardianship practices. These new programs were designed to strengthen the bond between humans and animals and to teach a humane philosophy toward all living creatures.
Ken-Mar Rescue is a nonprofit organization that does not receive government funding. Ken-Mar Rescue relies on donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to make possible our important work on behalf of animals and people.
“Planned gift” is a broad term that includes appreciated securities, charitable trusts, life insurance and property. Planned gifts often provide lifetime monetary benefits to the donor, along with considerable tax savings.
Ken-Mar Rescue offers a variety of planned gift opportunities designed to meet individual financial needs.
BEQUESTS
One of the simplest ways to make a planned gift to Ken-Mar Rescue is to make a bequest in your will. If you already have a will your lawyer can usually add a codicil to include Ken-Mar Rescue.
Many friends of Ken-Mar Rescue who choose to make a bequest also arrange to entrust their pet(s) to the care of Ken-Mar Rescue after their passing. To learn more, please go to the page about our Pet Bequest Program
Giving through a bequest lowers your federal estate taxes because the assets donated to Ken-Mar Rescue are deducted before the estate tax is calculated.

Charitable Remainder Trust
charitable remainder trust gives you the flexibility to design a trust to meet your individual financial goals. One type of trust provides a set fixed payment, while another type provides a fluctuating annual payment based on a percentage of the trust’s value each year.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity can provide the mature donor with a lifetime payments while generating a tax deduction and allowing remaining assets to be used to support Ken-Mar Rescue.
OTHER WAYS TO GIVE
Appreciated Securities
A popular alternative to a cash gift is a gift of appreciated securities. Such gifts generate a double tax benefit. In addition to receiving an income tax charitable deduction for the full market value of the property, the donor escapes any potential tax on the capital gain element in the gift property. In order to qualify for this double tax benefit the property must have been held for more than a year.
Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance is an excellent way to make a sizable contribution that does not tie up current assets, that provides immediate tax savings and that helps ensure Ken-Mar Rescue’s future. You may make Ken-Mar Rescue owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
You may also take out a new policy that names Ken-Mar Rescue as beneficiary. The premiums you pay are tax-deductible, and in time, the value of the policy will far exceed your net contributions.
Gift of a Personal Residence
You may make a gift of your personal residence without affecting your current lifestyle through a special arrangement called the retained life estate. This plan transfers ownership of your residence to Ken-Mar Rescue but allows you and your spouse to continue using it for the rest of your lives. In return, you are allowed an income tax deduction for the value of the future interest that you convey to Ken-Mar Rescue
The property does not have to be your primary residence – it can be a vacation or second home – and you do not have to reside on the property.
